A sense of belonging, Adriana's Story
Joined 2019, Brazil – Like many of my colleagues in Brazil, I joined Lightsource bp when the company acquired the Enerlife portfolio. Not just for me, but for the whole team, from the beginning, there was a very strong sense of “belonging”. As a team, we have the opportunity to work in a truly international environment, alongside a very experienced and enthusiastic group of people. As an individual, Lightsource bp’s culture of collaboration makes me feel really close to my peers, regardless of their geographic location. I’m very proud to be part of this company.
Solar is quickly becoming one of the cheapest and cleanest forms of energy production, which makes it a highly rewarding industry to work in. I have been working with environmental planning in the energy sector for 10 years now, first in an energy distribution company, then as a project manager in an environmental consultancy firm, where I specialized in wind power projects. It wasn’t until 2016 that I started working with solar projects and I’ve since developed projects in Brazil, Argentina, and to a smaller extent, Colombia. I have also recently started supporting Lightsource bp in Portugal, alongside my role in Brazil.
Developing solar projects is very challenging, and professionally we are constantly having to learn, adapt and evolve to a fast-changing market, which makes it a very stimulating job! Developing projects in Brazil is demanding: it’s a country of continental size, with many regional differences and a very complex planning system. I think what makes my role special is that it provides a link between the financial/economic side of our business with the local setting and community, making it possible to develop a truly sustainable project.
Adriana Martins, Head of Environmental Sustainability & Real Estate, Brazil
