We are delighted to announce that Alex Desouza has won the Lucy Aitchison Women in Energy Award at the Solar & Storage Live Awards 2026, recognising her outstanding contribution to the solar and renewable energy industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The award was announced at the Solar & Storage Live Awards ceremony at The Vox in Birmingham, which brought together people from across the solar and energy storage industry to celebrate achievements across the sector.<\/p>\n\n <\/span>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

A well-deserved recognition<\/h3>\n

The award recognises more than two decades of leadership, sector impact and commitment to supporting others across the solar industry.<\/p>\n

Alex began her career as a city lawyer before moving into solar development in 2008. Since then, she has played a role in delivering major solar projects across the UK and Europe, contributed to industry policy and communications, and worked to strengthen engagement between the sector and the communities in which projects are developed.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Her contribution extends beyond project delivery. As a member of the UK Government\u2019s Solar Taskforce, Alex advocated for and helped establish its Communications Sub-Group, supporting greater coordination across the industry and contributing to work including the Solar Roadmap and Solar Energy UK\u2019s Community Engagement Good Practice Guidance.<\/p>\n

Championing women in energy<\/h3>\n

Supporting other women has been a consistent thread throughout Alex\u2019s career and makes this particular award especially fitting. Over the past two decades, she has recruited, developed and mentored women who have gone on to hold senior roles across the UK and Europe.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex\u2019s contribution extends well beyond her role at Lightsource bp. She has consistently used her experience and influence to help move the solar sector forward, from contributing to industry and government initiatives to championing better engagement around solar development. Reflecting on her win, Alex said: \u201cI have been lucky enough to work alongside tenacious, talented women throughout my career, especially at Lightsource bp.
