6.55MWdc at Lough Road, Upper Ballinderry, Antrim
Hillside solar project is a 6.55MWdc solar project located in Upper Ballinderry, Northern Ireland. The site became fully operational in March 2017.
The Hillside solar project offers more than a low-carbon renewable source of energy, the site also provides biodiversity benefits to the local ecosystem. Hillside was designed to integrate into the local surroundings and boost biodiversity, Lightsource bp has experience in designing effective initiatives to increase local biodiversity. Grasslands were sown across the site, helping increase ecosystem resilience. The Hillside solar project site was designed to accommodate grazing for small livestock such as sheep and chickens, providing dual-land use and allowing the land to continue its agricultural use.
We hosted a community consultation for the project to gather feedback from residents. Community consultation is an important part of the development process as it provides an opportunity to engage with local communities, allowing us to provide additional information and residents an opportunity to offer any suggestions.
