Celebrating European Solar Day

This Sunday on European Solar Day, we celebrate the power of the sun – and the energy it brings to all our lives.

Coordinated by SolarPower Europe, this year’s theme is ‘Solar Stories’. It’s a day to recognise how solar is already part of daily life across Europe: powering homes, supporting communities, strengthening biodiversity and helping businesses cut emissions.

To celebrate, Lightsource bp highlights the real experience behind our projects across Europe. Our EMEA regional teams work together to realise these stories every day across our projects and partnerships.

Some examples from across our EMEA regional operations:

• Protecting biodiversity in Portugal – from strengthening our national biodiversity strategy to supporting conservation of the Tartaranhão‑caçador (Montagu’s harrier).
• Advancing scientific research – through our collaboration with CSIC in Spain, delivering the first study on the lesser kestrel around solar sites.
• Innovating clean energy for industry – including a tailored multi‑buyer solar PPA enabling a global fashion brand collective to access reliable, low‑carbon power.
• Supporting Poland’s energy transition – with projects like the Kotuń solar farm, bringing low carbon, local generation to communities and contributing to national energy security.

These are our Solar Stories – examples of how solar delivers more than electricity. It supports ecosystems, strengthens local economies, and helps people and businesses take meaningful steps toward a lower carbon future.
