Joaquin Oliveira

Joaquin Oliveira is Lightsource bp’s Group CEO, joining the company from bp in February 2024, following bp’s agreement to take full ownership of Lightsource bp.

Joaquin leads the business, bringing with him bp’s vision to further scale-up this standalone company, taking it to the next level of profitable growth and performance to become a global renewables powerhouse.

He brings deep financial and commercial expertise with over 25 years’ experience in senior executive roles for renewable energy, oil & gas, and financial services businesses.

Prior to joining Lightsource bp, Joaquin was the CFO for bp’s gas & renewable energy group , (including natural gas, offshore wind, onshore wind, solar, hydrogen, and carbon capture & storage businesses ) and was responsible for shaping, delivering, and managing the growth in that group/segment which generated $14 billion of EBITDA in 2023 ($8.7billion pre-tax profit)

He served as the interim Executive Vice President for the gas and renewable energy group , reporting to bp Group CEO from Oct 2021-March 2022.

Joaquin was also a non-executive director in several renewable companies including Lightsource bp, Beacon Offshore Wind, Empire Offshore wind and a large oil & gas conglomerate in Latin America, Pan American Energy Group.

Joaquin holds an MBA from Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and a B.S degree from the Accounting & Business Administration faculty of the Andrés Bello University in Venezuela. He started his career in 2001 at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) where he established the foundations of his career in finance.
