Spotlight: Ground Maintenance top priority for Lightsource bp Operations & Maintenance
At Lightsource bp, we take our role as temporary stewards of solar land very seriously. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on what this means for our Operations and Maintenance (O&M) business and the clients we work with.
Lightsource bp’s O&M team offers comprehensive third-party services, covering all aspects of solar and storage operations and maintenance for asset owners across the UK. A large part of those services falls under the umbrella of the Ground Maintenance team – taking care of the land and habitats on and around the solar installations we operate.
Effective Ground Maintenance is an important aspect of solar operations, as the state of the landscape of a solar project directly affects the production of the asset. Without regular grass cutting and weed reduction, you run the risk of vegetation covering panels and impeding generation.
As well as contributing to better production, good Ground Maintenance also positively impacts the additional benefits provided by solar projects, such as boosting local biodiversity. At Lightsource bp, our team takes a sensitive and intelligent approach to Ground Maintenance, following the landscaping and biodiversity management plans established during planning to ensure that solar production is carefully managed while creating and enhancing local habitats. This hard work speaks for itself, with a recent survey of Lightsource bp-managed UK sites showing that nine in ten sites had significant habitat gains around solar panels.
The Ground Maintenance team at Lightsource bp is responsible for managing over 6,200 acres of land – that’s more than 3,500 football pitches! The team prides itself on its ability to take the portfolios they manage to the next level of management, developing better access, improved Health & Safety and better environmental improvements to deliver exceptional results for our clients.
