Game Changers for farming, and for energy – Lightsource bp sponsors Farmers Weekly Awards
For the second year running, Lightsource bp has sponsored the Farmers Weekly Awards.
This ongoing partnership is an important part of Lightsource bp’s commitment to the agricultural sector, and to furthering the energy transition in the UK. For the past two years we’ve supported numerous Farmers Weekly initiatives aimed at progressing UK farming towards a more sustainable future, working on from both perspectives to deliver sustainable renewable energy while supporting individual farming businesses and the industry as a whole.
This year we sponsored the brand new Game Changers award, created to mark the 20th anniversary of the flagship Farmers Weekly Awards. The initiative aims to recognise that farming’s success is built on collaboration with a whole host of affiliated industries that help food producers continuously improve and keep the nation fed, making it the ideal award for a Lightsource bp sponsorship.
The Farmers Weekly Awards are the most prestigious awards in the agriculture industry, recognising farmers’ achievements across the country, and as a company dedicated to working with farmers and landowners, we were delighted to take part again.
In many ways, the success of British solar depends on British farming, and this has been true since the early days of the industry. Ground mounted solar development relies heavily on farmers and landowners, and so it has always made sense for Lightsource bp to support not just individual farmers and businesses that lease land to our projects, but the farming industry in its entirety.
Part of how we do that is by supporting events and entities that highlight and celebrate the farming industry, and this year Declan Keiley, our Head of Business Development for UK and Ireland, was pleased to do so by presenting the Game Changers Award to Rob Shepherd, an eco-system service provider from Hampshire. In an age when society demands ever more from farmers, Rob is helping to ensure growers and livestock producers are fairly rewarded for looking after the environment – as well for producing food, and is a very well-deserved winner of this award.
Becoming a solar landowner
Allocating a portion of your land to lease for a solar farm opens up a diversified and dependable income stream. Take a look to see if a solar lease with Lightsource bp could work for your business.
