Inspiring the next generation of solar innovators
The G3 Energy Summit is an annual student-led Energy Conference co-organised by the Energy societies of LSE, Imperial, Cambridge University and UCL on the current development in the energy sector. The summit has been recognised as the biggest student-led energy summit across Europe, bringing together leaders from across industry, politics and academia to discuss trends and issues within the energy sector.
This year’s topic was “Transitioning the UK to Net Zero”, and Lightsource bp was proud to be represented by Leo Kellock, Senior Solar Technology Engineer in our Innovation team. Leo works across a number of projects and initiatives designed to push the boundaries of technology and renewable energy at Lightsource bp, and he took part in the first panel – “Solving the Technical Challenges of Decarbonisation”.
Speaking on why he felt it was important to attend the Summit, Leo said: “It’s vital as a solar company that the case is made for our part in the energy transition, especially to the next generation of engineers and economists. From the depth of knowledge and engagement from the audience you could see that the full gravity and complexity of this incredibly tough task is being understood and taken on by the next generation.”
At Lightsource bp, events like this are a key part of how we’re going beyond solar to make a real difference. We send speakers to educational events, invite universities to visit our solar projects, create educational resources for local schools, run apprenticeships and internship programs and more. Empowering the next generation to help the energy transition to renewables is important to us, and activities like these allow us to educate and inspire people across a wide range of disciplines.
