Lightsource bp EMEA General Counsel elected to Solar Energy UK Board
We’re thrilled to announce that Alex DeSouza, General Counsel EMEA and Head of Transactions at Lightsource bp, has been elected to sit on the board of Solar Energy UK (SEUK), the UK’s solar trade association.
Lightsource bp has been a member of SEUK for many years, working closely with CEO Chris Hewett and his team to help drive the progress of UK solar. Alex’s position on the board is a vital contribution to our goal of supporting the UK solar industry to meet the target of 70GW of capacity by 2035.
Alex is perfectly placed to work for, and with, the entire solar and energy storage value chain, with years of experience making the case for the delivery, financing and regulatory support for electricity generation from solar projects. As part of the UK Government’s Solar Taskforce, she had been supporting the industry as it continues to bring benefits to local communities, nurture UK-based business, and create opportunities for exciting and rewarding careers in solar.
Alex DeSouza, General Counsel EMEA & Head of Transactions, Lightsource bp, said: “It has been a privilege to work in the solar industry over the past 16 years as it has matured into a pivotal force driving the energy transition. The next few years will be critical for the sector as we continue to make the case for solar and lobby for the infrastructure to deploy at scale. Delivering 70GW by 2035 is an important and ambitious target.
“As part of the SEUK Board I hope to bring passion and experience to drive policy change to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing deployment at scale. The solar industry is in the spotlight and we must use this moment as an opportunity to be bold and clearly communicate the multitude of benefits that responsible, sustainable solar development brings to local communities.”
