Playing my part, Tara’s story
Joined 2019, Ireland – Before I joined Lightsource bp I’d worked on numerous energy projects from a variety of angles. I’ve got a degree in civil and environmental engineering, and a PhD in asset management, the combination of which has allowed me to appreciate both the technical and commercial realities of infrastructure development. With this in mind, my role at Lightsource bp is the perfect fit. As the Head of Development for the UK and Ireland, I am responsible for optimising our asset base there and determining future development strategy.
For me, one of the best things about my job is the variety, and the people I work with. There is a great team spirit at Lightsource bp, and I love that no two days are the same – I can spend the day embedded in a spreadsheet, negotiating a contract, or out walking a site meeting a landowner. Plus, you never know what’s around the corner when you work in Development, there will always be a new challenge or a new opportunity, depending on how you look at it!Then there’s the fact that working at Lightsource bp means being a part of something hugely important. I believe that we need to strive towards getting as close as we can to being 100% reliant on renewable energy and I see solar as having an enormous role to play in terms of getting us there. Lightsource bp is an amazing success story in terms of our growth over the last ten years, and when offered the opportunity to work on developing renewable assets in my home country, Ireland, I jumped at it.
