Proposed solar installation at Hulam Farm

Lightsource bp is funding the development of a solar installation that will connect into the local electricity network, with an output power capacity of 49.9MW (Megawatts).

We have selected the site area shown below, and we’re now undertaking a wide range of environmental assessments to help shape our plans. These include landscape and visual, heritage and archaeology, ecology and more. We presented the plans for the project to the local community for their input before submitting the proposal to the local council, who granted planning permission.

Our proposal

Our initial plans are outlined below. These plans were informed by the results of our environmental and planning assessments, and from feedback from the local community, and underwent minor amends before being presented to the council.

Comprehensive planning diagram from Lightsource bp UK Projects detailing the proposed solar farm site. The map highlights key features: location relative to Hesleden Village, Blackhall Quarry, and Castle Eden Conservation Area; access via existing farm routes; preservation of Grade 3b agricultural land; creation of green open spaces; and enhancement of existing vegetation and biodiversity, including a Local Wildlife Site and Hulam Fen SSSI. Inset photos illustrate planned vegetation, screening, and pollinator habitats.
