Juliet Solar construction update

As of  January 2025

Construction begins in late January 2025 at the 62MW(ac) Juliet solar farm, a utility-scale solar project west of the Village of Weston in Wood County, Ohio, north and south of Sand Ridge Road between Weston Road and Milton Road. The project is expected to finish construction at the end of 2025.

We will update this page with further information and updates and construction ramps up.  With questions, comments or concerns, please reach out to USCommunityRelations@lightsourcebp.com

Labor and work schedule

Solar construction creates career opportunities in your community. Our latest update:

  • During the initial phase of construction, work will occur Monday through Friday, 7am to 6pm.
  • At the beginning there will be only 10-15 workers on-site each day.  At the peak of construction, there will be around 120 workers on site.
  • Grand Isle Shipyard is the construction contractor for the facility, with a focus on utilizing local labor for the mechanical, electrical and civil work on site.
  • We will hire at least 70% of the on-site labor locally, working with the local electrical, labor, carpenter and operator unions.
Utility-scale solar projects create hundreds of jobs during construction.

Equipment and installation

Our construction crew is hard at work installing new infrastructure for Ohio’s energy security and independence. When complete, the solar arrays, inverters, transformers, substation and other equipment at Juliet Solar will generate home-grown electricity for Ohio homes and businesses.

Our latest update:

  • During the first phase of construction, the team be surveying and staking, building road entrances and internal roads, grading where necessary and installing temporary fencing.
  • Major deliveries are planned from February through July 2025, beginning with about 8 trucks of solar modules per day in February.
  • No road closures are expected in the near future.
  • The team will drive approximately 24,000 posts into the ground to hold up racking and solar panels. Post driving may begin as early as late March.
  • The site will feature more than 100,000 solar panels from U.S. manufacturer First Solar. More than 60% of these panels were manufactured in-state at First Solar’s Perrysburg, Ohio facility. Solar panel installation will begin in April or May.
  • The site will feature 17inverters and transformers. These help turn DC power generated by the solar panels into usable AC power that can power homes and businesses via the electrical grid.
  • The site will include smart solar tackers from Array Technologies, Inc—a U.S. manufacturer.
  • The perimeter of the site will be enclosed by farm-style game fencing by the time construction concludes.
  • Work on the substation is planned for March through October 2025.

Environmental and community impacts

As the project owner and operator, we want our Juliet Solar farm to be a great project for the local communityHere are some of the initiatives we have planned and underway:

  • Prior to construction, we pre-seeded the array area with 13 species of pollinator-supportive grasses and flowering plants to stabilize the soil during construction.
  • In addition to pollinator-supportive vegetation throughout the site, Juliet Solar will host 35 acres of enhanced monarch butterfly habitat on the project perimeter.
  • Any solar panels damaged during construction will sent back to their manufacturer to be recycled. Lightsource bp has a zero-landfill commitment for all solar panels used on our sites.
