Philanthropy at that heart of what we do

Lightsource bp’s philanthropy impact

Giving back is something we take seriously at Lightsource bp – it’s part of our culture. We don’t only want to deliver meaningful change to the way the world is powered, but ‘Be the Change’ across all areas of society.

In this round-up, we look at the recent visit to Nepal by our Lightsource Foundation members, and the ways individuals in the wider team have been contributing huge amounts to charity. As a group, we’re proud to be making a difference throughout the world and in our communities.

Lightsource Foundation returns from Sarlahi

The Lightsource Foundation’s ongoing partnership with World Vision saw us support Koas Krala in Cambodia between 2014 and 2021, over the years we visited the region regularly to see first-hand the difference we were making. Recently, 10 lucky foundation supporters from various offices were on the ground in Sarlahi in Nepal visiting our new community for the first time.

It was always a massive privilege to get on the ground in Koas Krala, and Sarlahi was no different! Meeting the community, particularly many of the Lightsource bp team meeting the children who they sponsor – was an experience that will remain with them forever.

Ahead of the trip – everyone in the company had the opportunity to donate or purchase gifts for the children which were all greatly appreciated by the community. Also, part of this first trip was dedicated to building safe spaces for the children. Child friendly spaces are remarkable places, giving children a place to play, learn and simply be children again. They are especially important when children are exposed to absolute poverty and child labour, which is sadly the case in Sarlahi.

From playing, dancing, and taking part in creative activities with the children. All the interactions not only had a profound impact on the children in the community but also the team that had the opportunity to visit.

Watch the video below that captures the heartwarming moments we shared with the community and to find out more about the trip.

Lightsource Foundation finalist at Business Charity Awards 2023

Business Charity Awards logoThe Lightsource Foundation was delighted to be recognised for its work over the past nine years by being shortlisted in the ‘Community Impact Category’ at the Business Charity Awards 2023.

Nick Boyle, Group CEO of Lightsource bp, said: “Being shortlisted for a Business Charity Award is great recognition that we’re making a difference. We’ve always strived to go beyond business as usual and our nine-year partnership with World Vision is exactly that. We’ve almost raised £1 million and made a tangible difference to more than 40,000 of the most vulnerable people in impoverished communities around the world, something that we’re fiercely proud of.

“None of this would be possible without our team members — thank you to every single Lightsource bp team member that regularly gives, helps fundraise and pour in the passion, empathy, motivation and delivery that we’re so good at.

“Our focus now and in the future will be the safety and wellbeing of children in our new community in Sarlahi, Nepal. Our work with World Vision is only just beginning and I can’t wait to keep driving positive change together.”

Fundraising for natural disasters

Earlier this year when Turkey and Syria were struck by two devastating earthquakes (7.8 and 7.6 magnitude), Lightsource bp knew we wanted to support in any way we could.

A support group was created to assist those who have been directly or indirectly affected by this disaster. With the collaboration of the support group, VIBES arranged a breakfast to raise funds which would help to provide life-saving care and emergency shelter, food and clean water to families trying to survive in the area.

The breakfast event was held in our London office to raise funds to donate to the Save The Children Turkey-Syria Earthquake appeal. We collected an incredible £1,770 with donations still coming in!
