Lightsource bp upscales membership in SolarPower Europe

News reflects organisation’s growth ambitions and commitment to shaping a sustainable energy future

Brussels, 11 March 2022 – Lightsource bp, a global solar leader and 50:50 joint venture between Lightsource and bp, today announces its new sponsor membership role in SolarPower Europe (SPE), a member-led association representing companies committed to helping Europe reach carbon neutrality by 2050.

SolarPower Europe represents organisations across the solar value chain, and aims to ensure that solar energy is at the core of smart and sustainable energy policies and systems. Through its membership to SPE, Lightsource bp brings its solar power expertise to the association, helping drive forward the shared ambition of ensuring solar energy becomes the central energy source in Europe.

Kareen Boutonnat, CEO for Europe and International of Lightsource bp, said: “In the last decade, Lightsource bp has grown into an industry leader. In just four years, our business has grown significantly across Europe and we are now active across 9 EU member states. We have upscaled our membership with SolarPower Europe to demonstrate our commitment to furthering best practice across the industry. We want to engage, inform, and support vital partnerships and policy work that will contribute towards shaping a sustainable energy future for Europe.”

“Our first move was to set up our European Government Affairs team in Brussels and now we are really excited to broaden our engagement and support SolarPower Europe’s ambitions to create a policy landscape which keeps climate consciousness and sustainability at its centre,” continued Boutonnat.

Over the past 10 years, Lightsource bp has expanded into 17 new markets, establishing itself as a global leader in solar energy. In order to reach its ambition to combat climate change while meeting rising electricity demands, Lightsource bp places sustainability at the core of its activities. It is committed to developing 25GW of solar by 2025 while working to drive forward innovation in low carbon technologies, and integrate sustainable business practices into all levels of its activities.

“At this crucial time for solar, we welcome Lightsource bp’s strengthened membership of SolarPower Europe. It is wonderful to have them onboard to help us shape the future of the clean energy technology essential to reach the EU’s climate and energy goals. We have enjoyed working with Lightsource bp for a number of years, notably through their current chairpersonship of our Life-Cycle Quality workstream, and the definitive Best Practice guidelines we’ve produced together for the solar sector. Their expertise will help maintain our momentum in ensuring that more energy is generated by solar than any other energy source by 2030.” said Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe.
