Manor Farm solar producing 5MWp in Eggington, Leighton Buzzard

The solar farm at Manor Farm was built in 2015 and designed with an extensive Biodiversity Management Plan. This included 2 new woodland areas and large areas of wildflowers which increase biodiversity levels and provide habitats for birds and invertebrates. As well as being designed to enhance local biodiversity, Manor Farm is home to a flock of sheep, who graze the project and provide the landowner with an additional income stream while allowing the land to retain an agricultural use.

The site was developed by Lightsource in 2014, and is managed by our in-house teams. The solar project is a frequent destination for site visits, welcoming everyone from Lightsource bp interns and new starters to MPs and trade associations.

How solar energy can benefit the local environment

A responsible land management plan works alongside agricultural practice to improve visual screening and increase biodiversity around the solar farm. The following planting and habitat enhancements have been placed through the input of local ecologists during the development stage of the project.
