Solar farm at Sheraton Hall Farm, Sheraton, County Durham, TS27 4RD

Lightsource bp is funding the development of a solar installation that will have an output power capacity of 49.9MW (Megawatts).

We have selected the site area shown below, and we’re now undertaking a wide range of environmental assessments to help shape our plans. These include landscape and visual, heritage and archaeology, ecology and more. We presented the plans for the project to the local community for their input before submitting the proposal to the local council, who granted planning permission.

Sheraton Hall Solar Farm Community Information Presentation

Information presentation for our Sheraton Hall Solar Farm proposal, recorded for the virtual event that took place on 4th November 2020.

Our proposal

Our initial plans are outlined below. These plans were informed by the results of our environmental and planning assessments, and from feedback from the local community, and underwent minor amends before being presented to the council.

Comprehensive planning diagram from Lightsource bp UK Projects detailing the proposed Sheraton Hall solar project. The map highlights key features: solar panel arrays within red site boundaries, access via existing farm gates (B1280), preservation of Grade 3b agricultural land, green open spaces, new vegetation planting for screening and biodiversity, and cultural heritage assessments. Inset photos show sheep grazing, native hedgerows, and pollinators, reflecting a commitment to sustainable, community-sensitive development.
