Lightsource bp celebrates World Safety and Health Day 2025

Today is World Day for Safety and Health at Work, led by the United Nations’ International Labour Organisation (ILO) agency. At Lightsource bp, safety isn’t just one of our core values, it’s ingrained in our culture.

We are focused on embedding health, safety and environmental (HSE) strategies and quality into everything we do. We challenge ourselves to continuously improve, innovate and set new benchmarks for delivering safe, responsible and high-quality renewable energy projects.

This year, we want to spotlight how our team members embrace the safety culture, promote our Golden Rules, highlight O&M safety integration and showcase how a role in safety is powering positive change.

Isabel Gil Pereira, Senior Projects Performance Manager

“We plan, install, maintain and operate solar farms, work that involves many inherent risks. Working safely means working efficiently, even when you’re sitting at your desk.

People always come first, which is why Lightsource bp’s top priority is to ensure that every team member returns home safely at the end of the day.”

Jack Ayres, Grounds Maintenance Team leader

“At Lightsource bp, the most important factor in the work we do is to keep everyone safe, especially when working in high-risk activities and environments.

Health and Safety is continuous – we constantly need to consider improvements to our ways of working, and operationally, the equipment we use.

Safety is so embedded into my role – when I show up to work, what I wear and how I undertake and carry out my tasks, I know will influence my team. It is vital to lead by example.”

“Safety is essential to the work we do because it protects our people, ensures the quality of our operations and builds trust with our clients and stakeholders. When we prioritize safety, we create a more productive, reliable and responsible work environment for everyone involved.”

Marina Talalajeva, Senior HSE Advisor

“Safety is a number one priority at Lightsource bp – there are many risks associated with the work we do, and being aware of these risks and proactive in our attitude towards them is not only our ethical care of duty towards everyone who works with us and for us, but also an important driver for economic success, ecological stability and community recognition.

Safety means not only reacting to incidents but taking proactive measures to prevent these incidents in the first place. By empowering employees to champion the safe behaviours and practices, Lightsource bp builds a very strong and positive safety culture.”

“Safety is fundamental to everything we do because we operate in environments that involve high-voltage electrical systems, heavy equipment and construction activities. A safe site is a productive site, and maintaining high safety standards reflects our commitment to our people, our partners and the communities where we work.

Safety at Lightsource bp means looking out for each other making sure everyone goes home in the same condition they arrived, or better. It’s about creating a culture where speaking up, being proactive and following best practices is second nature. Whether I’m in the office or out on a project, safety is never just a checklist, it’s a shared responsibility and a core part of how we work and lead by example.”

Kristin Paul, Global Head of HSE & Quality

“At Lightsource bp, safety isn’t just one of our core values—it defines who we are. As we grow and take on more complex projects, every team member has a role to play in protecting one another. From safe site selection to contractor oversight, from working at home to working in the office, we all contribute to creating a safe, supportive environment.

Staying proactive, holding ourselves accountable and reinforcing our safety ambitions is how we live our values every day. Because safety isn’t just a policy—it’s personal.”

Our Golden Rules

We are committed to everyone being safe and going home, every day. Therefore, we have a set of ‘Golden Rules’ that drive us to maintain a culture of safety.

Safety focus for UK O&M team

Our goal is to partner with all to drive operational excellence, risk reduction and zero harm for everyone, everywhere, every day. A key aspect of our UK O&M team’s commitment to HSE is our program dedicated to enhancing safety through data driven interventions and collaborative learning. Worksite analysis and hazard prevention/control activities are critical components that our teams work diligently to integrate through our and our third-party clients’ projects.
