Lightsource bp’s hail mitigation solution showcased in the World Economic Forum’s Innovation Playbook for Future Power Systems
The World Economic Forum (WEF) launched the Innovation Playbook for Future Power Systems, showcasing practical, scalable solutions driving the transformation of global power systems.
The WEF states that “flexible, resilient and secure power systems are the backbone of future economies and innovative solutions are needed to meet the rising electricity demand”. We are proud to have Project Whiskeyball, our hail mitigation program, featured as one of those solutions.
To safeguard our solar energy assets against extreme weather, namely large hail, we developed Project Whiskeyball, a proprietary risk mitigation digital solution. This initiative integrates engineering, advanced predictive meteorology, and machine-to-machine automation to transition asset protection from a manual, reactive process to an autonomous, data-driven methodology.
We employed a three-tiered defence strategy designed to eliminate “false negatives” in risk detection while maximising asset availability.
You can find the case study in the WEF playbook and read more about our real-world impact.
