Be a good neighbour: the cornerstone of project success

Lightsource bp has a strong tradition of proactive and meaningful community engagement on our self-developed projects.

Project Budai is one example of how we proactively understand the needs of local communities by providing meaningful, tailored solutions.

“During construction, a local fisherman asked us to reschedule work in his fish pond by three months so he could finish his final harvest. Understanding how important each harvest is to his livelihood, we quickly coordinated with the team and adjusted the construction sequence, allowing him to complete the harvest while keeping the project on track,” reflected Vivi Lee, Senior Development Manager at Lightsource bp in a recent interview, on a memorable interaction with the local community when managing Project Budai, our first project in Taiwan.

Another recent example of our commitment to providing an economic impact is a USD $195,000 community investment in Anson General Hospital in Texas, USA to fund 11 new patient beds and computers for telehealth services. This small, federally designated rural emergency hospital is the last remaining hospital in the project area and in face of chronic financial challenges.

Beyond community investments, we aim to create positive local impacts through generating local tax revenue, creating construction jobs and empowering students through education.

In 2024 alone, our peak construction workforce exceeded 3,000, helping create the demand for important transition economy jobs. We also contributed that year, approximately £385,000 in community benefits from our operational assets and sites under development and construction.

Through innovation and collaboration, we aim to create value for the communities in which we develop. “This approach enables Lightsource bp to establish a strong trust and reputation which in the long-run paves way for future projects and lasting partnership in the market. We don’t just build projects, we build trust,” Vivi concluded.
