£1m fundraising target achieved

The Lightsource Foundation has had a very successful few months, culminating in achieving our ambitious fundraising goal of £1 million!

This incredible achievement was reached ahead of schedule, highlighting our unwavering commitment and our exceptional team’s dedication.

Since 2014, through our partnership with World Vision, we’ve been supporting communities in Cambodia and Nepal, addressing crucial challenges like child protection, education, health, and nutrition.

This achievement, like all others, has only been possible thanks to the passion and hard work of our incredible team members.

Lightsource bp awarded prestigious Platinum Award from the Charities Trust

This award, presented by Charities Trust, was in recognition of fostering a culture of philanthropy and commitment to giving in the workplace, by promoting payroll giving to the very highest standard.

The Platinum Payroll Giving Quality Mark Award was presented thanks to 20% of our UK Lightsource bp team members donating through our payroll giving scheme, which is also offered globally. At Lightsource bp we support the Lightsource Foundation, where alongside World Vision, we work towards a better future for communities across the world.

This simple way of giving is great for charities as they are provided with regular income. Donations are also deducted from monthly gross pay, prior to tax deductions, meaning it costs less for our team members to give more to their chosen causes. Better yet, as a company we match the amount donated by our team members.

Our Global Walk4Water continues across our regions

Spanish team out on their Walk4Water 6km walk in Madrid

The average woman and children in developing countries — including Nepal — walk 6km everyday to fetch water for their community. This puts children in vulnerable situations, takes them away from education and impacts their health. Yet, the water that is available is often filthy and makes them unwell.

Early this year we launched our Walk4Water campaign, enabling us to raise funds to install more water pumps in the homes of vulnerable families in Sarlahi, Nepal. A number of our global offices have already held their 6km walk4water and recently Madrid held their walk, enjoying a route taking in many well-known tourist attractions including the Puerta de Alcalá.

Watch the video below where Nick Boyle, Group CEO explains the importance of our Walk4Water campaign.

Lightsource bp supports Everyone’s Playground initiative in Pennsylvania

On October 28, Lightsource bp joined community members, local officials and the Andy Russel Charitable Foundation at a ribbon-cutting event for the Comfort Station for Everyone’s Playground in Selinsgrove Pennsylvania. Established in 2019, the playground was created to accommodate children and others with special needs, disabilities, and other challenging conditions. It’s a place where children of all abilities can play, learn, and grow.

The final phase of Everyone’s Playground is the addition of an ADA-compliant Comfort Station. This changing area and restroom facility will accommodate individuals and their caregivers with the latest personal needs and sanitary equipment, while insuring complete privacy.

After two years of fundraising, the Comfort Station is finally complete, supported by a contribution from Lightsource bp!

The Comfort Station location is within steps of Everyone’s Playground, a picnic pavilion, fresh drinking water, and comfortable “Buddy Benches” snuggled among a grove of beautiful shade trees.

Three of Lightsource bp’s Cottontail Solar project sites, in Snyder and Columbia counties, are all within an hour or less drive of Everyone’s Playground!

This contribution underscores Lightsource bp’s dedication to inclusivity and community, creating an accessible space for families living near our solar farms.
