Energy in Focus – Safety that delivers: reducing risk and protecting long-term value
At Lightsource bp, safety is not only about protecting people – it is fundamental to how we deliver projects on time, reduce risk and protect long-term asset value across our global portfolio.
Embedding safety right at the start the project lifecycle helps us make better decisions from the outset, reducing the likelihood of delays or technical failures that can lead to unplanned outages. The result is more predictable delivery and stronger operational performance that enables positive returns for our investors, customers and partners.
Will Manchas, Head of HSE for the USA and EMEA, explains how safety acts as a “yardstick” for execution quality across Lightsource bp’s projects: “The more we embed safety and risk mitigation early in development, the better our project execution tends to be” Will says. “It’s not something that starts at construction or operations. When safety is built in from the beginning, delivery is more predictable and assets are better protected.”
This approach has already delivered tangible results. On one major project, early design intervention addressed a safety specific equipment risk during a major phase of a project, avoiding potential failure and unplanned outages. By addressing it upfront, the team were able to effectually safeguard workers while also protecting critical infrastructure.
As Lightsource bp continues to grow as a leading producer of onshore renewables and energy storage, safety remains a core enabler of reliable delivery and long-term value.
