Lightsource bp publishes 2024 Sustainability Report  

Lightsource bp, a global trusted partner in delivering onshore renewable energy solutions, is pleased to publish its 2024 Sustainability Report.   

The report reflects a milestone year for Lightsource bp as it established sustainable foundations for its onshore renewables platform. Key milestones and achievements highlighted in the report demonstrate the company’s commitment to advancing the energy transition through a diverse energy mix and driving sustainable value for our partners, people and planet.

2024 Sustainability Report highlights

• Lightsource bp owned assets generated 4.4TWh of renewable energy, avoiding estimated emissions of nearly 2,640,000 tCO2e to help decarbonise global businesses and communities.
• In 2024, Lightsource bp developed 3GW of assets, representing an over 30% increase in developed capacity and bringing our cumulative total to 11.8GW globally.
• The first battery energy storage (BESS) project from Lightsource bp’s multi-gigawatt global pipeline was energised at Tiln Farm in the UK, representing the next phase of Lightsource bp’s mission to enable a low-carbon, renewable-first grid in the UK and beyond.
• Significant progress was made in advancing supplier ESG due diligence. In 2024, the proportion of key suppliers with responsible supply chain management and due diligence processes increased from 40% in 2023 to 95%. This progress will be further reinforced by the integration of the Responsible Sourcing Policy into business processes through 2025.
• Scope 3 intensity, measured as emissions per MW developed, reduced by 17% when compared with the 2021 baseline. Scope 1 and 2 (market-based) emissions also saw a reduction, decreasing by 15% compared with 2023.
• 55% reduction in reported vehicle accidents from 2023 to 2024. Internal and external recordable injury frequency were at 0.36 and 0.78 respectively, significantly below industry averages.
• Advances in multiuse solar were made in 2024, with 72% of Lightsource bp’s operational assets in the US incorporating agrivoltaics, and 63 new contracts signed with farmers globally – a 50% increase from 2023.

Significant progress has been made in areas including our sustainability functional assurance processes, the integration of ESG risks and mitigation into project decision-making and improvements in the quality of our GHG emissions and waste data. It has been great to see the support for our sustainability goals from colleagues at all levels of the business, and the way our teams have embraced this as a shared responsibility. Looking ahead

The report sets out clear ambitions for the future of sustainability at Lightsource bp. In 2025, Lightsource bp’s Sustainability Strategy will be assessed to ensure it remains fit for purpose, with a particular focus on covering wind, BESS and the company’s value chain. Key priorities include completing a GHG Reduction Plan and target review, advancing Lightsource bp’s approach to biodiversity and developing a comprehensive Waste Action Plan.

Throughout 2025, Lightsource bp will also be working to embed key policies, such as its community engagement, responsible sourcing and environmental policies, into everyday operations.
