Lightsource bp UK Headquarter Visited by House of Lords DECC Minister
House of Lords DECC Minister visits HQ of Lightsouce bp UK, Europe’s leading solar energy company
Europe’s leading developer and operator of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, Lightsource Renewable Energy, received a visit from Baroness Verma, the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) minister in the House of Lords to discuss the future potential of solar energy in the UK. Lightsource operates the largest portfolio of solar PV projects in Europe, having deployed over £1.5billion of investment into the local economy since its inception in 2010.
Lightsource recently announced moving headquarters to the landmark building 33 Holborn, celebrating tremendous growth from 6 full-time employees to over 350 in just over 4 short years. The company is also firmly on track to become the first solar energy company in the world to reach a 1 Gigawatt operational portfolio of solar PV assets deployed in the one country by end of March this year.
Baroness Verma visited Lightsource’s London headquarters to meet with senior company representatives and the British Photovoltaic Association (BPVA) to discuss the role solar energy has to play in the future energy mix.
Baroness Verma comments: “I was very pleased to have visited the new offices of Lightsource in Holborn and congratulate CEO Nick Boyle and his expanding team on their great success in the solar industry. I wish Lightsource well on their recent MOU’s with India and look forward to their footprint there.”
Nick Boyle, CEO at Lightsource, said: “In a very short period of time, solar energy has become the most popular renewable energy source in Britain. Solar PV’s simplicity and scalability enables the technology to be deployed to suit consumers’ needs. We have ambitious plans and the funding to enable local communities all across the UK to benefit from cheaper, clean, locally generated electricity. We are pleased to have welcome Baroness Verma to our offices and look forward having more discussions with Government officials on how solar energy can truly become a home grown asset that the UK can be proud of.”
Reza Shaybani, Chairman of the BPVA, said: “The BPVA has been working hard to establish a strong relationship between the Government and the solar industry since inception. Baroness Verma’s visit to Lightsource Renewable Energy’s headquarters and meeting with key management of the company strengthens the relationship between government and industry. Baroness Verma is an active and respected member of the House of Lords and a Minister at DECC. She is also known and respected globally and this can only mean good news for the UK solar sector wishing to enter new and emerging markets. Our recent trade mission to India is a good example of such opportunities being presented to the sector. We are extremely grateful to the Minister in taking time of her very busy schedule to visit one of our members.”
Lightsource recently announced the allocation of £125 million towards developing solar PV rooftop projects which will benefit businesses, schools, social and affordable housing and households; aiming to provide up to 60% reductions in daytime electricity bills through fully funded, high performance, solar PV projects.
