A career by accident, Kate's Story
Joined 2012, UK – I fell into the solar industry by accident – I was looking for a temporary job to save up to travel and volunteer with a sustainable charity. I was offered an admin role in Lightsource bp’s Belfast office shortly after it opened, and I quickly realised two things that remain true to this day. Not only is the company a great place to work, but that the solar industry provides a great career opportunity. I decided to throw everything I had into making a career here at the company, and to this day I’m really glad I did.
When anyone asks what is my favourite part of working for Lightsource bp, I give them two answers. Firstly, it’s the satisfaction you get, knowing that each project completed is adding a little bit of good in the world, and your role really makes a difference (cheesy I know!). The other is the “solar-coaster” as we often call it. No day or project is ever the same and that keeps me on my toes.
At Lightsource bp, adaptability is key. I could spend one day writing an investment committee paper, the next liaising with suppliers and contractors, and the day after that out on site, wading through knee-high mud with a prospective solar landlord. I’ve worked on countless projects in the UK in my years at the company, and I can easily say that every single one has been different, with different challenges.
